Nirvana - Nevermind Cover Shoot

I was a huge Nirvana fan growing up so when I stumbled across this article I was pretty excited.

Kurt asleep on the side of the pool early in the morning of the shoot:

The article talks about the photographer, Kirk Weddle, capturing the cover image for the Nevermind album.  I consider it to be one of the greatest album covers ever made.  You can actually pick up a limited edition print of the original image for $600 on www.rockpaperphoto.com.

Here's the cover:

Here's the baby on the cover all grown up:

Its got to feel good to capture an image that has that much of an impact.  Maybe someday I'll know.  BTW that album changed rock and roll forever.

Farmer's Market - Stockton, CA

Sometimes sitting around the house on a Saturday is awesome and sometimes you just want to get out.  Stockton has several farmer's market, so it was kinda like take your pick.  I picked the closest one to the house!

It was pretty hot out and I think Scout's face tells that story.

I saw the vegetable prices.

I saw the vegetables.

After a few frames the lady who owned all the vegetables saw me and looked at me like she wanted to kill me.  Frankly I didn't want to die over vegetables...so I left.  Awkward!

A huge bin of organic strawberries for $10.  I was psyched on that.

This would be the reason the kids love the market.  It only cost a dollar to go in both of them.

Lincoln was a little slow to go in.

But really quick to come out.

He hated it.

Scout loved it.

I love jalapeno cheese bread.  So I bought a giant pan of it and it was incredible.

The kids were melting down quickly so mommy was happy to leave just as quick as we came.

Screaming kids and all, it was better than sitting at home on a Saturday morning.

Peterson Portrait Session Album

Wrapped up a beautiful blurb album last night for Tye and Vanessa...shhhh, it's a surprise for them.  I ordered it with pro grade lustre paper and a linen cover.  It's going to be gorgeous.

Vintage Me, Vintage You - Reunion

Sowers Reunion - Deer Park, TX

A couple of years ago the Sowers family got together for a mini reunion.  Being in California now, I've really learned to appreciate, and cherish, these photos and all of the photos of my family that I've made.

The men.

Papa and Uncle Bobby.

All the great grand kids (at that time).

Laughing it up and just missing teeth.

Learning to slide.

Acting like we're 5 again.  Some of the best times in my life were spent with Ryan and Amy.

The women.

Peek-a-boo!

Kyle.

Uncle Bobby.

Amy.

Papa.

Aunt Edie.

Juli.

Michelle.

Night night dolls.

My best friend in the entire world.

This is classic.  We still cut each others hair when we get together.  That's my dad on the right, cutting his dads hair.

iPhone App - Photography 101

I found a new iPhone app that I think is a big help to budding photographers.  Its called Photography 101.  More or less its a compilation of good information available online and collected into one single app.  Here's a look at the app:

There is an endless amount of great info in here.  It covers the gamut from the basics of shutter speed and aperture to more advanced lighting techniques.

The app is by Pacific Spirit Media.  Their website isn't much to look at but the app is cool!

Here's a look at the other photography apps I have on my phone.

Try out the Photography 101 app and let me know what you think about it.  Its free, what do you have to lose?  Let me know what apps are your favorite.

Kids on Horses

Took the kids to a western themed birthday party today.  Little Collin Barrington turned one and his parents went all out on this birthday party.  It was really incredible.  Here are some photos of my kids at the party.  (Sorry to all the other kids, I didn't really feel like shooting today!)

Cute little cowgirl making her rounds on the pony.

Howdy partner!  I look ridiculous in a cowboy hat.

Bryony and the birthday boy.

Just checking his stallion out.

Hey!  Mucho take it easy.

He looks a little like I imagine Pancho Villa looked.

Peter Lindbergh.

I follow a lot of blogs, one of my favorites is Fashiontography.  They showcase really great fashion photography.  They give credit to both the photographer and the models, which I think is important because the photographer is only as good as the model in front of his lens.  But I digress.

So this week Fashiontography exposed me to Peter Lindbergh.  His work is amazing.  He seems to be heavily influenced by early German cinema.  Utilizing beautiful hard light.  I like to think that there is a little bit of him in my work.  While a lot of photographers shy away from broad daylight, I tend to flock to it.  You can do so much with it.

Here are some samples of Peter's work.  Enjoy.

I'm completely in love with his work.  Let me know what you think.  Who are your favorite photographers?
